It’s happening again!
The 1st Lloyd District Louis Armstrong Celebration that a) broke the Portland Parks attendance record, b) won a Community Service award, c) brought attendees to their feet at its conclusion in a standing ovation to Louis Armstrong, has received the fullest of green lights from all concerned parties to happen for a SECOND year and will take place on Saturday, August 27, 2016, and once again is FREE!
As in 2015, the venue will be Holladay Park, a block south of the Lloyd Shopping Mall, on NE 11th and Holladay Street. It is directly served by the Trimet bus no.8 and 70, and the light rail MAX red, green and blue lines.
On-going throughout the event will be activities for children and food carts.
The current schedule of events is :
5pm-5.30pm : Swing Dance lesson
5.30pm – 6.30pm : The Cherry Blossom Orchestra
6.30pm – 7pm : Speakers, announcements, refresher dance mini-lesson
7pm – 8pm : The Cherry Blossom Orchestra
The Cherry Blossom Orchestra are : :
David Evans – clarinet and saxophone, arranger
John Moak – trombone
Charlie Porter – trumpet
Garner Pruitt – trumpet
Randy Porter – piano
Doug Sammons – banjo and guitar
Ken Anoe – tuba and bass
Michael Raynor – drums
Richard Basi – artistic director
For seating, the same rules apply as at regular Portland Park Movies in the Park : picnic blankets, low chairs all good. Regular height garden chairs, ok but further back from the stage. There ARE some chairs already there as well as permanently fixed benches, but don’t bank on them being available if you arrive later.
