On July 29, 1965, in 90+ degree heat, LOUIS ARMSTRONG & HIS ALL-STARS played two free concerts from the roof of the Lloyd Centre Shopping Mall in Portland.
Over 25,000 people were there – how many can we get this time?
Join us one block south of the Lloyd Centre Mall, in the glorious summer sunshine at Holladay Park, for a celebration of the occasion and of the music, life and legacy of Louis Armstrong. Discover the Louis Armstrong you probably have never known – you’ll be amazed, thrilled, and filled with joy!
This is a FREE event for any and all! Families, children, music fans – all welcome! BYO picnic blankets, food, low chairs – come to celebrate the genius of Louis Armstrong in the glorious summer sunshine!
Bridgetown Sextet, the most authentic, sincere and accomplished players of the music in the area will be playing a concert in tribute to this historic event.
Confirmed musicians are :
Scott Kennedy – bandleader, piano, drums
Marilyn Keller – vocal
John Moak – trombone
David Evans – clarinet, tenor saxophone

Reggie Houston, New Orleans musician and educator will be our very special guest to share stories of Louis Armstrong and the music.
A one hour documentary will be shown on a big screen in the park directly after the conversations with Reggie Houston, covering the first 30+ years of Louis Armstrong’s life – perhaps the Armstrong you’ve never known – but soon the one you’ll never forget.
