From Corona to KBOO in 7 days

Well that was a week that will live long in the memory and be tough to beat.

It started on Sunday, May 24th in the morning basking in the glorious sunshine and relaxing environs of the Louis Armstrong House Museum garden in Corona, New York. While watching the fish swim and the birds bathe, news came in on my phone that I’d won the fantasy Premier League for the third year running as results filtered through on the 38th and final weekend of the 2014/15 season. The rest of Sunday was spread between three venues in Manhattan listening to groups led by Tamar Korn, Nick Russo, then Glenn Crytzer, and finally at the Ear Inn with the EarRegulars.

So much happened in the rest of the week that it will take away from the main point of this post, which is to give out the setlist for my stint on KBOO at the end of the week, the early hours of Saturday morning, May 30th. Just to list the performances then : Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks, the Rum House session with Terry Waldo, Jon-Erik Kellso, Jim Fryer, Dan Levinson, Molly Ryan, Peter Ecklund, Jake Handelman. Tuesday at Mona’s was crazy, memorable for the three reed spectacle of Tom Abbott, Evan Arntzen and Dan Levinson performing together on a couple of numbers. Thursday I was back in Portland but no time to rest – Scott Kennedy was in town and played in a six with Doug Sammons, Dee Settlemier, Garner Pruitt, Willie James on tenor and Pete Lampe. And Friday evening, the 2015 return of the Bridgetown Sextet – the works of King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton, The Missourians, Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington got a thorough workout.

From there, straight to KBOO, and the three hour set :
